1. Psychoanalysis. The part of psyche, residing in the unconscious, that is the source of instinctive impulses that seek satisfaction with the pleasure principle and are modified by the ego and the superego………
[En-ti-tee]
2. Something that has a real existence: thing. Being or existence, especially when considered as distinct, independent, or self-contained……..
The exhibition was an open submission process, and the selected artists were chosen from both staff and students at Limerick School of Art and Design.
The artists chosen reflect the theme of Identity in its many guises and represent the growing number of foreign students in Limerick School of Art and Design from Russia, Germany, Argentina, Holland and England.
Two Russian students: Anastasia Artemeva and Elena Bezborodova proposed the initial concept and Peter Morgan curated the show, which has a broad range of artistic practices represented.
The exhibition Identity is presented in such a way as to blur the boundaries between the individual artworks. The hanging of the show creates a dialogue between the various pieces in the show, so that we read one piece in relationship to what is beside it and the separate parts read as a whole, intermixed and interwoven. This both reveals and denies identity.
In the Octagonal room there was a film screening of MICHAEL APTEDS’ - “UP” films. The ground breaking World in Action series – the charming and amusing thoughts of a group of 7 year olds ruminating on sex, money school, race, love, mum and dad, the future and each other. The series of films traces their lives from 7,14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49 and on.
